Conflict in Bangkok

The rising violence that’s going on in Bangkok stemming from the anti-government protestors refusing to go home has led to a political stand-off that is stopping people from coming to Thailand. Thailand’s economy has suffered enough in the past few years and this latest confrontation is very likely to lead to a decline in consumer demand and undermine investor confidence.

People all over the world are watching the conflict between the red shirts and the Thai government on their TV’s and making the decision not to travel here in the near future, many are also cancelling flights and holiday plans already booked.

However, those of us who live here know that the conflict is being contained in Bangkok and thee is no danger for those who avoid visiting the capital. Fly into Bangkok airport and straight back out to Phuket or another island destination and you won’t see anything to make you feel unsafe. The majority of travellers head to the south of Thailand with Bangkok just a stop over or change of flight.

The Association of British Travel Agents has stated there’s no danger in the tourist areas such as Phuket and Bangkok can easily be avoided if arriving from another country and heading straight to a beach resort. The airport is safe and most tour operators are simply flying their customers between Bangkok airport and other destinations, without any need for travellers to go into the capital itself.
